Modern Seamless Glass Railing

At Specialized Stair and Rail, architectural stair design is a true passion. We have a team of stair designers who can take client’s ideas and concepts and turn them into reality. That is a feat we make look simple and we love the challenge!

For the stair at this infill project, we partnered with Rescom Inc, an Edmonton- based construction company. Warm, modern and innovative, this home is simply stunning. We designed a closed rise white oak stair with self-supported glass railing to infuse modern style into this home.

This closed rise stair features the beauty of white oak. A notable feature is the angled risers which give the cleanest feel to the staircase. Typically treads have nosings, but in this case, there are none. This was specifically chosen to bring minimalist style to the stair.

The stair is self supported, meaning that all the support is contained within the stair and walls minimizing the visible structural posts needed. A self-supported stair is always an impressive design choice.

Simplicity of style is carried through to the modern glass railing. Note how there is no visible mouldings, frame, or hardware. These were all intentional choices to modernize this railing. However, the simplicity hides how complex this railing package really is. The design team at Specialized invented a system specifically for this railing! We used in house solutions to deliver an effective product and did not compromise on style.

We used our own facia mounted glass railing system that allowed us to seamlessly incorporate the facia into the dry walled ceiling. The glass is mounted deep into the floor and stringers to offer incredible stability with literally no mouldings or visible details. What looks like freestanding glass brings open sight lines and beautiful light flow to this home.
