Perchless Mono Stringer
Perchless Mono Stringer with Glass Railing
This staircase was a part of a huge renovation of a 1970s home. The original stair was completely encased in bubble gum pink walls! We opened up the main floor by removing the walls and designing a staircase with glass railing to allow light to flow freely. The result is a beautifully warm yet modern staircase that is the cornerstone of style on the main floor.
This modern custom staircase is an oak perchless mono stringer with dadoed and standoff glass railing. The perchless mono stringer is a signature design unique to Specialized. Note how the treads are notched into the stringer, eliminating the need for riser posts. This brings cleaner lines and a simpler look as the treads cantilever out of the stringer.
Being a renovation, the challenge for this project was blending two styles of glass. We built this mono stringer over the existing basement stair and so it needed to share glass with the old basement staircase. This required high skill in design and alignment to ensure the right fit. This was a deceptively complicated stair design challenge that our team took on and we are so proud of the finished product and the opportunity to incorporate our signature perchless mono stringer design into this home.
